Indian National Rugby Teams and Rugby Premier League 2025 – 2028

Our founder Serge Kampf was passionate about the sport and all that it represented – and indeed, ever since the Group’s creation, Rugby has been in our DNA. Sports has strongly influenced our culture and our values, especially team spirit and fun.


ѻý has a long-standing association with the Indian Rugby Football Union (IRFU). We have been supporting Rugby in India since 2022 as an ‘Associate Sponsor’ for the Indian National Rugby 7s Women & Girls and the Rugby 7s Men & Boys teams, promoting diversity and inclusion on and off the field. ѻý has extended its association with IRFU from 2025 to 2028 by becoming the ‘Transformation Partner’ for Rugby 7s teams & 15s teams, further strengthening its India rugby footprint. This sponsorship aims to enhance brand awareness, drive inclusion, and promote rugby at the grassroots level.

Rugby has seen a steady growth in participation & awareness in India, & it now takes a bold leap with the introduction of GMR RPL, making it among the top five sports for India’s youth. ѻý’s partnership with GMR Rugby Premier League from 2025 to 2028 is a continuation of its commitment to supporting rugby & promoting the sport’s growth & development. About Indian Rugby Football Union (IRFU)

Indian Rugby Football Union (IRFU)orRugby India, founded in 1998, is the sole governing body for the sport of Rugby in India. Recognized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sport, Govt. of India, Rugby India is a full member of World Rugby, Asia Rugby and the Indian Olympic Association (IOA). The body is responsible for the growth & development of the sport of Rugby across the country from the grassroots to the high-performance level.

IRFU is the sole governing body of all formats of the sport of Rugby in India for all genders and ages. The formats included are as follows: Rugby Union, Fifteen-a-Side Rugby, Seven-a-Side Rugby, 10-a-Side Rugby, 12-a-Side Rugby, Touch Rugby, Non-Contact Rugby – Tag Rugby, Flag Rugby, Beach Rugby, Snow Rugby, Wheelchair Rugby, Underwater Rugby.

Rugby has been included in the School Games Federation of India (SGFI) for all age-groups (U14, U17 & U19 boys & girls) and the National University Games for both Men & Women, under the aegis of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). 

For ease of functioning and development, geographically, the IRFU consists of 26-member State Associations and Units, each of which are responsible to promote and grow the sport in their respective states and units.          

About Rugby Premier League 2025

The (RPL) is a professional franchise-based league in India. It aims to promote the sport of rugby by providing a platform for players to demonstrate their skills and for fans to watch rugby matches. The league includes both national and international players, competing in a structured format to identify the champion. The GMR group has joined as the Organizing and Marketing Partner through its subsidiary GMR Sports, positioning RPL as a new entry on the international Rugby 7s calendar.

The live matches of Rugby Premier league is scheduled for 2025, marking a significant development in the sport. The league will include both national and international players, with six city-based teams competing against each other: Delhi Redz, Hyderabad Heroes, Kalinga Black Tigers, Chennai Bulls, Mumbai Dreamers, and Bengaluru Bravehearts.

The Rugby Premier League will take place from 15 June to 29 June, 2025 at Andheri Sports Complex, Mumbai. It will be live-streamed on JioHotstar and Star Sports starting, 19:00 PM onwards.
